This led to a phenomenon of tradition shock. Its fortunes have been reversed later in the 1930s, and tango again grew to become broadly fashionable and a matter of national pride beneath the primary Perón government, which in flip had a serious impact on Argentinian tradition overall. Within the early years of the twentieth century, dancers and orchestras from Buenos Aires travelled to Europe, and the primary European tango craze passed off in Paris, soon followed by London, Berlin, and other capitals. Additionally, the mixture of African, Native American and European cultural influences in tango was new and unusual to a lot of the Western world. Instructors of the period would generally refer to this as a "North American tango", versus the so-referred to as "Argentine tango". Tango historian Nardo Zalko, a native of Buenos Aires who lived most of his life in Paris, investigated the mutual fertilization between the 2 cities in his work, Paris - Buenos Aires, Un Siècle de Tango ("A Century of Tango"). Many neighbourhoods of Buenos Aires have their specific tango histories: for example La Boca, San Telmo and Boedo. The dance originated in working-class districts of Buenos Aires and Montevideo. The tango was controversial because of its perceived sexual overtones and, by the top of 1913, the dance teachers who had introduced the dance to Paris have been banished from the city.
